PhotoReview Posts Review of the Sigma DP1
PhotoReview (http://www.photoreview.com.au/) has published an excellent online review of the Sigma DP1. Check it out (via PhotographyBlog) by clicking here.
Their conclusion is interesting: while PhotoReview applauds Sigma for pioneering work in developing this groundbreaking camera, they also point out that the DP1 is not the (their?) ideal solution to a serious photographer's compact camera requirements.
They hope that the DP1 will only be the first of a new category of compact cameras with large sensors. So do I.
I was particularly impressed by the way the resized DP1 shot fared in the comparison to the R8 image. Far greater highlight retention *and* more apparent shadow detail (though difficult to say this given the size of the images shown) while maintaining good overall contrast.
would have liked to see it compared to a more similar camera than the R8. like the GRDII's or the GX100's raw files since all the DP1 files were shot in raw.
but good review. i'd like to see this large-sensor trend gain some more momentum.

Stay tuned isoleaf =). I'll be doing those comparisons, hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks. Regards, Amin
