More Olympus Micro Four Thirds Teasers

The official Olympus site now states "Ninety Years in the Making. Coming Summer 2009" and offers an opportunity to sign up for the latest news related to Olympus Micro Four Thirds. The same orange striped sardine can concept model we've seen before is also featured.

For my own purposes, systems are classified by size as pocketable (eg Canon SD880IS), "small bag" (eg Canon 1000D & "kit lens"), or "large bag" (eg Nikon D700 & two-three lenses). As an Olympus fan, I had been waiting for Olympus Micro 4/3, hoping that it would be the best small bag solution for me. Today, I got tired of waiting and picked up a Nikon D5000 kit. For Olympus' sake, I hope these teasers are more effective with others than they were with me. Still, I think that Olympus ought to consider disclosing more than they have. A glance at a prototype model may have been enough to keep me waiting whereas a look at a concept model was not.

In my defense, I'm still using the same socks I was using 10 years ago :-p.

I agree with you Amin. Bad marketing from Olympus, a lot of potential buyers have given up and spent there money somewhere else.

Amin - I share your frustration! Almost bought a E-420 kit yesterday to replace my E-300, but as the finances were pushing the edge, I decided to keep on saving and wait for the new M43. If the new Oly camera is any good then I'm sure the D5000 will be easy to sell to make the switch back ! :)
Just hope the used prices of classic M43 gear does not take a dive after the launch.
Longest tease ever! I have patience though. My old Pentax *ist DS may be falling apart but it still takes great photos. I can hang out a few more months...
Amin, what made you go for D5000? What are your impressions? Not that I'm against it (I'm considering it myself too), but if small bag size was the criteria, why not Panasonic's G1? And then eventually add m43 later as even smaller backup, using the same lens mount?

Leave it to Olympus to introduce an interchangeable lens camera that lacks a viewfinder. It'll be interesting to hear why we "consumers" should buy it over the Lumix G.
Olympus' silence was frustrating, their teasing is infuriating. If they keep this up I can't see myself investing in Micro Four Thirds anytime soon as I'll have spent the money elsewhere.
deferred gratification - The ideological principle which encourages individuals and groups to postpone immediate consumption or pleasure in order to work, train, invest, or gain in some other way an enhanced return at a future date...

...never mind- I just ordered the Sigma DP2.
What marketing impudence!
I bought the DP1 instead and will buy the Samsung offering maybe later.
Screw Olympus!!

OK, so we seem to have a common opinion on this. By the time of the introduction (and even later availability!) of this Oly MFT the holiday season will be over, the money spent and Olympus has lost the momentum. Maybe we should forward these comments to the Olympus folks, for lessons to be learned.
I'll wait. No problem. I'm speculating that by the time Olympus does introduce it, I'll have waited longer for Sigma to deliver the DP1. Right now, I have an E420 and a LUmix LX3. While I love the functionality and size of the LX3, I want a larger sensor as it is still obvious when I compare my images from my E420 to my Lumix. I don't want or need the image quality of some of the higher end DSLR. I want the combo of size, lens interchangability and a larger sensor (than a P&S).

Thanks you Olympus. Make it work. Release it when it is ready. As long as the image quality is higher than my LX3, I'll be buying one.
Ditto, with comments above: for a while, I was determined to wait until I saw this thing in flesh b4 buying my next cam, but last week I broke down and bought a G1. I like the tactility of the controls on the G1, and actually do like the grip, EVF... the flash I could live without, tho... And my logic is, if I want to go more compact (and probably will), I'll just get a compact prime whenever pana or oly releases one; and it'll still = less than $900, and probably roughly around the same dimensions. the real bulk in G1 comes from it's kit lenses, not it's body, imo.
i got tired of waiting and bought an lx3.. sorry olympus but now i won't jump to m4/3 until maybe 2011
Hi all,
Well, this looks kinda nice. A bit like the Contax G2 I had a couple of years ago. That was a nice little camera for me. I'm sure there will be a VF for it. Well, here's hoping anyhow!!
