Canon SX1 IS Firmware Update Adds RAW Capability

As promised, Canon has released a firmware update to allow current SX1 IS owners to enable RAW mode on their cameras.  Unlike smaller companies like Ricoh and Sigma, Canon doesn't have much of a track record when it comes to using firmware updates to add new features, but this is a great step in the right direction.

I'm not aware of any other manufacturers enabling RAW with a firmware update.  It would be amazing if Canon would do the same for some or all of the many cameras which have RAW enabled via the CHDK hack.  The Canon G7 certainly comes to mind.

I wish Fuji would take the cue from Canon and consider enabling RAW in a firmware update for the F200EXR.

I fear the real problem is that, unless the camera is still for sale, there's no incentive for Canon to bother.

Even though I'd love RAW on my G7
Completely agree! I'd love to have RAW on my SX10 IS and A590 IS, hope Canon would listen and raw to 'lesser' compacts via firmware update.
FWIW, Nikon enabled NEF capture in the Coolpix 5000 with FW 1.7, IIRC.
I hope Canon is listening. RAW is an essential for me.
