Sigma DP2 Now Listed at Amazon for $650

The Sigma DP2 is now listed at Amazon with a price of $650. That's $150 less than the introductory price of the DP1 and on par with the average going price of the DP1.

With a 41mm (equivalent) f/2.8 lens and APS-C (1.7x crop) Foveon (4.65MP) sensor, the DP2 is unique amongst compacts. It allows a more shallow depth of field than any other pocketable camera at this field of view. Based on samples to date, the lens appears to live up to performance expectations.

That's really tempting. I could live most of the time with just that lens, and it would fit between my SLR's lenses.

I'm just really not sure I could deal with it being as slow as the DP1 (or only a little faster)... focus is going to be much more important here than with a 28mm lens.
A 24mm/2.8 still has plenty of DOF, especially at F8. I preordered hoping for the best.
This makes my next purchase more difficult. When I dropped and busted my DP1, I said I would replace it because of the speed, functionality issues of the camera & poor battery performance. I replaced my broken DP1 with an Olympus E420 w/25mm lens. I love this camera, but still long for something a bit smaller.

I'm about ready to buy the new E620 body with IS and then this. I may just have to wait and see how the DP2 performs.

I still haven't seen anything about the expected delivery of the DP2. What is the expected delivery? Also, knowing what happened last time with the release of the DP1, how accurate do you think anticipated delivery will be?

gnat: perhaps the question should be:
What are the odds of this being in people's hands before the much-rumoured olympus micro-4/3 compact camera? About even I'd say. Although if you add the also-rumoured 40mm-equiv prime lens for that then who knows...
So true. My desktop background image has been the Olympus M4/3rd since Photokina. I'm hopeful and love my Olympus cameras. That said, I am a sucker for the simplicity and liked the images from my DP1.

I have something I'm doing in August that really requires I use a smaller camera and I don't want to use a point & shoot. I would love to use either this new DP2 or the Oly M4/3. Time will tell.

Panasonic has just shown off a prototype for their m43 20mm f1.7 lens, slated to be released this year. With the in-body IS on the soon to be released Olympus m43 compact, it will likely have the best lowlight / short DOF potential of any compact to date.

DP2 will be released in Japan on April 24 per press releases. Based on past Sigma camera releases (DP1 in 2008, SD14 in 2007), DP2 availability in the US market hopefully should follow shortly thereafter.
Is the image quality of DP2 effected? I see as DP1 image quality is much better.
