Thanks for doing this! I'll be looking forward to it.

In the light of Laurence Kim's "surprising conclusion," I'd like very much to have you compare the jpegs from the LX3 and the D-lux 4 (as well as a double check as to whether the RAW files from these two are really the same.) If the RAWs are identical, but significant differences obtain in the jpegs, then the extra cost of the Leica version might still be warranted.

Then, too, any side comments about the DP1 would also be appreciated....

Here's hoping your time, your bank balance and your family survive all this!

Cheers,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for your comments! I too would like to see such an LX3/D-LUX 4 comparison and may do one myself. Thanks too for your concern for my family and bank account =). The 25% cashback via Live.com is helping me buy these cameras to test and hopefully resell without much of a hit.
All the best,
Amin
amin, i am too looking forward to seeing your shootout.
as for me the main competitors are still the LX3 and G10 i was impatient and couldn't wait, so i made a small comparison in advance by myself, which is of course raw-based.
i used DPP for the G10 raw-files and raw therapee for the LX3. in both cases all noise reduction and sharpening was turned off. i wanted to see how much noise the sensor actually produces at higher isos. this is not so much about detail.
unfortunately this test is not 100% comparable, because 2 different raw converters were used, so the results can differ if raw therapee was used for both, unfortunately no G10 support in dcraw yet.

i won't comment, but IMO panasonic really managed to improve the LX3 sensor a lot compared to their precedessors.
